iPod video is in mp4/m4v/mov format, you need to use dvd to ipod converters to convert the dvd video to ipod video format.

All in All, you need to finish two main things below:
Thing 1: Convert DVD to IPod format MP4(MPEG-4), M4V, MP3, AAC, M4A etc.
Thing 2: Synch the conversion file(s) to ur iPod.

Detail solution:
Thing 1:
Step0: Free Download Daniusoft DVD Ripper, install and run it;
Step1: Importing you DVDs;
Step2. Choose the ipod format as output and select output path;
Step3. Then start converting.

Basically you need to first convert your DVD movie into mp4 file and then import the mp4 movie into ipod with itunes. Just browsing for a guide , found this, it may be helpful for you.

Insert your DVD to DVD-ROM, and launch DVD to iPod converter.
Step1. Choose the profile (output format), encode speed, and set the output folder. You need to set the output folder to your hard disk.
Step2. Click “Open DVD” button on the skin or choose “menu>file->open dvd ”
