i know how to get an AVI or divx file to an ipod touch. I used a DVD Videosoft program called Free Video to Iphone Converter. and it takes maybe 6 minutes to convert a 700mb file. Then you can drag the mp4 format video over into your itunes.. easy
as for getting a dvd to an divx or avi is a different story.

You just need to convert your DVD movie or video to mp4 video, and then you can drag the mp4 video into your iTunes library. Plug in your iPod to computer, iTunes will detect the iPod automatically, then click iTunes menu “File -> Sync iPod”, that’s all.
